74. Shibarium: A new era in the Shiba Inu ecosystem?

The world of cryptocurrencies moves fast. New ideas and tools appear constantly, aiming to make crypto easier, faster, and cheaper to use. One of the most promising innovations in this space is Shibarium – a blockchain network developed specifically for the Shiba Inu community.

What is Shiba Inu (SHIB)?

Let’s start with the basics. Shiba Inu, also known as SHIB, began as a so-called memecoin – a fun crypto inspired by internet memes. But it quickly evolved into a serious project with a passionate community and ambitious plans.

SHIB runs on Ethereum’s blockchain as an ERC-20 token and started out with an enormous supply – 1 quadrillion tokens. Although it started off as a joke, SHIB now powers its own growing ecosystem, including DeFi tools like ShibaSwap, plans for NFTs, blockchain-based games, and even its own Metaverse.

What is Shibarium and Why Does it Matter?

Shibarium is what’s known as a Layer 2 network – a secondary framework built on top of Ethereum to make transactions faster and cheaper. It’s not a separate blockchain, but rather a kind of add-on to Ethereum.

Why is that important? Because Ethereum, while powerful, can be slow and expensive during busy periods. Shibarium helps solve this problem by processing transactions more efficiently, with lower fees and faster speeds.

Shibarium launched publicly in August 2023 and has seen impressive growth. Daily transactions have doubled since launch, and by March 2025, the number of active users had surpassed 1.3 million.

What Can Shibarium Do?

Here’s why people are excited about it:

  • Lower fees – Transactions cost much less compared to the Ethereum mainnet.

  • Faster processing – Operations are completed much quicker.

  • Smart contracts – These are programs that automatically carry out agreements and actions (like loans, games, or decentralized exchanges).

  • NFT and Metaverse support – You can create and trade NFTs, and build apps for virtual worlds.

  • DeFi expansion – Shibarium makes it easier to build financial tools without middlemen, such as decentralized exchanges, staking platforms, and yield farms.

Key Tokens in the Shiba Inu Ecosystem

The Shiba Inu ecosystem includes several important tokens:

  • SHIB – The original token that started it all.

  • BONE – Used for governance and to pay gas fees on Shibarium. Total supply is capped at 230 million.

  • LEASH – A rare token (about 100,000 in supply) used for staking and exclusive access.

  • TREAT – A reward token tied to future gaming and Metaverse plans.

  • SHI – A planned stablecoin meant to maintain a consistent value. Still under development.

What Are the Benefits for Users?

In short: more speed, lower costs, and more possibilities. Thanks to Shibarium:

  • Transactions are cheaper and faster.

  • SHIB gets new use cases, including a burn mechanism that reduces its overall supply.

  • Developers can build decentralized apps (dApps) that don’t rely on big corporations.

  • There’s room to develop virtual experiences in the Metaverse.

Should You Keep an Eye on Shibarium?

Absolutely. Shibarium is helping transform Shiba Inu from a meme project into a serious player in the blockchain world. It’s still evolving, but it already offers real benefits to users and builders.

That said, be cautious. All testing tools and documentation are free. If someone offers to sell you tokens during testing phases, it’s almost certainly a scam.
